"Defiant Engineer Draws Praise"

ENR

April 13, 1998

By Richard Korman

"Engineers from as far away as New York consider Turner a hero for refusing to passively undermine a legal and Professional principal that often is overlooked".

"When I see guys willing to put themselves on the line I’m more than happy to support them in any way we can," says Salvetore Galletta, Co-director of the American Engineering Alliance.

"I was devastated. Nothing made sense about the whole thing. But I didn’t stamp anything bad. Never did, never would". Ed Turner, former Idaho Falls City Engineer.

Defining Down Engineering

Some engineers consider Turner a hero.

Idaho’s board, in a 1996 letter to Idaho Falls, noted that reviewing the work of a non-registered person is does not constitute responsible charge. It also implied that allowing an engineering administrator to work in what had been a city engineering administrator to work in what had been a city engineer’s job without the requirement of a license was a sham.

The state board has been silent on the subject since its letter of June 1996. It is time for Idaho’s engineering board to rouse itself again and take action against the city to prevent this charade.
